Wednesday, March 9, 2016  A Detroit emergency medical technician was attacked on a run last night. The EMT was in stable condition at St. John Hospital after the attack with a department radio. Two EMTs were responding to a medical emergency in the 4600 block of Chatsworth on the city’s east side about 7:30 p.m. when “family members became unruly. They shattered a window in the rig, injuring one of the workers, she said.
Executive Fire Commissioner Eric Jones said the workers had been treating a patient with breathing difficulties then decided to transport that person to the hospital when someone attacked, “unprovoked, illegally.”
The injured worker, a five-year veteran, was expected to make a full recovery, Jones said. The incident came less than six months after a Detroit FD EMS paramedic and her partner were slashed with a box cutter Oct. 20 outside a homeless shelter.
